The history of volleyball is a long, compelling chapter in the history of sport that deserves being told.
Objects that narrate history: the echo of a match point, the roar from the terraces, the effort involved in hours of training … a cup pursued for months, breathtaking live matches, but also a pennant that is a reminder of congratulations, or the shirt worn by a great champion while smashing home a point.

Museo del Volley was established so that these memories will not be lost and the memorabilia which unravels the history of this sport do not remain only objects, but a living testimony of sporting passion. A place in which the objects of the history of volleyball, which have been offered in custody by their owners, will be available to those who wish to retrace it: catalogued, exhibited and valorised to tell the public of the passion, the victories and defeats, the magic moments of a great sport.

When passion binds you to a sport, whether you play or experience it, you need to share it with others.
The volleyball memorabilia, preserved with care among the objects of one’s own sports career, framed in the “family album”, exhibited on a shelf in a private office or kept in the archives of a club, have been waiting for years for the opportunity to return to the spotlight, to rekindle common memories and offer recollections on the volleyball of yesterday and the roots of present day volleyball. The history of individuals had to converge into the “history of a sport”.

This is where the idea to establish this Museum came from. It collects objects and the memories of ex-players, clubs, and enthusiasts who, although they remain the owners of their property, are happy to share them with other people and to make them available to the public. Playing materials and documentation (photos, videos etc) that have therefore been catalogued, enhanced with information, also made available online for journalists, young athletes, institutions, the ever faithful fans and the entire volleyball community.

It’s a captivating challenge, a commitment that requires a lot of effort, a project that was created not for business but instead for volleyball and – once again – teamwork in which everyone’s collaboration is fundamental.
