Museo del Volley at Top Modena Sport 2011

It opened a few days ago, in the splendid scenario of the Storchi theatre: "Top Modena Sport", the event which showed the great sporting events which took place under the Ghirlandina tower in Modena 2010 and which rewarded sportsmen and staff from Modena who were the stars of the last sporting year.
Ample space was given to the 1970 Panini Modena team in the awards, the first team to have worn the tricolor in the glorious company of Gruppo Sportivo Panini. The stars of that time were on the stage, with a pleasant act-drop in which the beautiful Melita Toniolo wore the sports shirt of that era, which is on display at Museo del Volley along with other memorabilia of that team, such as the tracksuits, bags and numerous photos. Here are the photos of the event.

Modena - September 21st, 2010
Official opening of Museo Internazionale del Volley - the International Volleyball Museum

Memorabilia and mementos of the history of national and international volleyball.

The cultural association of Museo del Volley - the International Volleyball Museum, which was very much wanted by the Panini family, has collected, catalogued and valorised hundreds of memorabilia which recount the history of volleyball from the 40s to the present day; from September they will be the heritage of the public and can be admired in the Via Pomposiana location in Marzaglia.

It is not only the territory of motors, it is also the territory of sport. Modena, because of its tradition and its affection for volleyball, is certainly the ideal place to host a volleyball museum and recount the game’s passion through its documents and memorabilia. These are objects that narrate history: the echo of a match point, the roar from the terraces, the effort involved in hours of training … a cup pursued for months, breathtaking live matches, but also a pennant that is a reminder of congratulations, or the shirt worn by a great champion while smashing home a point. After careful collection work – started by the Panini family and with the generous contribution of dozens of sportsmen, clubs and enthusiasts who decided to share objects and testimonies that marked their careers – this special museum finally opens to the public. On 21 September the sorting and institutional authorities and the Museums Management Committee - Antonio Panini, Maria Carafoli, Camilla Iulli, Fabrizio Anderlini, Leo Novi, Andrea Nannini, Franco Bertoli and Giulia Bagni – will cut the tape of the halls at 216, Via Pomposiana, in Marzaglia. After the press conference and the morning opening ceremony, the public will be able to visit the Museum with free admission starting from that very afternoon. A sporting history location that will be a new must for all enthusiasts visiting our city. In the days following the opening the Museum will be open to the public, with free admission, from 9 am to 1 pm from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of arranging visits in groups by appointment in the afternoons or at week-ends. It will also host temporary theme based exhibitions and it will be constituted as a volleyball documentation centre, with the possibility of consulting a wide collection of photographic material, newspaper, audio and video.
